About Louisiana Hiking Trails
Louisiana Hiking Trails (LHT) is a non-profit Louisiana organization dedicated to administering historical and recreational walking, hiking, canoeing, and bicycling trails within a reasonable distance of Baton Rouge.
The principal target audience is youth groups, to inspire young people to recognize the value in slowly traversing an area, taking in both the natural beauty and contemporary state as well as the historical context.
LHT primarily serves two functions: providing literature (directions, maps, historical background, list of museums, etc.) on a particular hike, and offering for sale optional award patches and medals that youth organizations can use to recognize which members have participated in particular hikes.
LHT was incorporated in 1975 by Eagle Scout Pierre E. Conner, Jr. We have additional information on our history.
LHT is staffed entirely by volunteers. The corporation's initial capital came from generous grants and the only income today is proceeds from the sale of trail awards. This income helps defray the cost of printing and distributing literature. We have additional information on our finances.
